Marjan Raar esittää teoksensa Songs from Strangling Earth 3.6.2022 Leidenissä, Alankomaissa – teos nähdään Suomessa joulukuussa

Marjan Raar esittää sooloteoksensa Songs from Strangling Earth. The Dance Collector Leidenissä, Alankomaissa. Teos saa Suomen ensi-iltansa Barker-teatterilla joulukuussa 2022. 

Raar esittää teoksen yhdessä alankomaalaisen Rens Borkentin sooloteoksen kanssa. Borkentin teos nähdään myös Suomessa joulukuussa 2022.

 

Songs from Strangling Earth

This solowork is inspired by the music and sound from the band Bikkie Skeef. I live with it, work with it, listen to it, love it and struggle with it.

The dark and mysterious sound was and still is a challenge for me to work with. 

The many sound layers, the underlying meaning and the unpredictable changes are still demanding my full concentration as a dancer and choreographer in this piece. I’ve been listening uncountable times to the soundtrack on my headphones to learn and recognise places important to remember. And I’m still working on it…

This work has been created in uncertain times. Pandemics, war, curfews, protests, anger, fear, lockdowns and loosing a work space.I got thrown back to me and myself. In this chaotic world I had dance. And that’s what I did, I danced And I’m still working on it…

I rehearsed this piece in different studios, in Amsterdam, in Turku and in my living room. I’ve been adding several objects and helping tools, but have been throwing it all away and ended up by just me; behind me a projection of graphical work from the same band. 

That’s the story.
